Set Apart To A New Life
From My Notes by Pastor Ron Campbell
Human beings have a natural tendency to think their way away from God. Our intellectual pride and rationalizations are excuses to keep us from God. We shouldn’t be surprised when people can’t grasp the gospel, because the gospel will seem foolish to those who forsake faith and rely on their own understanding.
We should be able to see a difference between Christians and non-Christians because of the way Christians live. Paul wrote in the book of Ephesians to leave behind the old life of sin, since they were followers of Christ. Our old way of life before we believed in Christ is completely in the past. We get to put it behind us like old clothes to be thrown away. When we decide to accept Christ’s gift of salvation, it is a for all time decision; we make a daily conscious commitment. We are not to be driven by desire and impulse. We get to put on a new self, head in the new direction, and have a new way of thinking that is guided by the Holy Spirit.
Living the Christian life is a process. Although we have a new nature, we won’t automatically think all good thoughts and express all right attitudes when we become a new person in Christ. However, if we keep listening to God, we will be changing and growing all the time.
As you look back over last year or two, do you see a process of change and growth for the better in your thoughts, attitudes, and actions?
Remember, change may be slow. When you trust God and make Him the focus of your adoration He will change and grow you.
